The allegory of the angels, who in human form are sent from heaven back to earth to restore the world to balance, with all the imperfections of the human body and soul. They move unnoticed among the people and try to lead them gently to the often difficult responsibility for their own lives.
One such angel is Dr. Mise, who gradually reveals his earthly task, which is to help the terminally and hopelessly suffering. Do we even have the right to make decisions about the lives of others when we are often unable to accept responsibility for our own?
An unjustly neglected drama by an unjustly neglected author. That is how one could briefly characterise The Angels among Us, which after its premiere at the Vinohrady Theatre in 1931 received only two more productions. The Moravian Theatre will thus be only the fourth venue to give voice to František Langer's visionary approach to the subject of euthanasia in this play. After almost a hundred years, it continues to divide society and polarise its views on the right of individuals to decide what to do with their own lives. Langer has taken up this difficult subject with respect for the sacred mystery of life and death that has accompanied the world of angels and ours since the beginning of time. Roman Vencl, the artistic director of the drama theatre, will direct the production together with Michaela Doleželová, the dramaturge of the drama theatre.
