Janka Ryšánek Schmiedtová's The Bartered Bride will be full of fantasies and visually striking images. The director, who has long explored Czech classics, will retell the opera with respect and love through the memories of legendary opera diva Emma Destinnová. Yet the production remains true to the words of Karel Sabina and music of Bedřich Smetana. The director has already worked at the Moravian Theatre Olomouc on two successful drama classics, The House of Bernarda Alba and The Year in the Village.
