The genre of so-called "pure comedy" has one goal - to make the audience laugh and entertain using all possible comical and dramatic means. One of the best writers of this genre was undoubtedly the British playwright Donald Churchill, who is known to the entire world thanks to his comedy The Decorator.
It was first performed in Watford, England, in October 1985 and since then has been applauded by audiences not only throughout Europe, but also in Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Israel, the United States, Canada, New Zealand and North Africa. The writer used the classic love triangle in which a couple caught in mutual marital infidelity is forced to face the vengeance of the disgraced wife. How will the wrath of the deceived Jane be dealt with by Marcia, who is caught in the act? And what role will the failed actor Walter, who currently makes his living as a room decorator, play?
Czech audience will remember this comedy mainly thanks to the production of Prague's Kalich Theatre, where the central duo was played by Jana Paulová (Marcia) and Pavel Zedníček (Walter). The show premiered in 1994, played for a hard-to-believe 22 years and achieved hundreds of sold-out runs. We are delighted that it will be Jana Paulová who will be making her second directorial collaboration with our drama company. After her successful adaptation of Gogol's The Government Inspector, this time you can look forward to a pure situation comedy that you will want to see again and again.
